The Macintyre River |
|||||
|
This is excellent Trout water. The Trout live in about the first 30 kilometers of the river before the Murray Cod numbers and the water temperature become to high for them to live. As you get closer to Inverell the holes become larger and fish numbers can be seen to increase significantly. This river is a great fishing river due to the number of fishing clubs and a man named Ray Mepham. Ray has been restocking the Macintyre for thirty plus years with Murray Cod , Golden Perch and Silver Perch with great success. From Inverell the Macintyre flows through Graman, Wallangara, Yetman and on to Goondiwindi. All of this water is great fishing with the Macintyre falls a great place to start. Goondiwindi is about the last of the clear water, from there to Mungindi where the Macintyre becomes the Barwon, the water very rarely clears due to the amount of agriculture. Surprisingly the water still holds large numbers of fish and some big ones at that. |
