Golden Perch

The golden perch also known as yellow belly lives in almost every river and lake in Victoria, NSW and QLD, that is west of the great divide. They are a very popular fish because of there eating quality, although fish over 2kg tend to become very fat and oily.

They grow to well over 10kg in some of the large impoundments, but are more commonly caught around 2kg, they can be found around fallen trees, rocks and under cut banks.

Golden Perch can be caught on most types of bait such as worms, crayfish and shrimps. They also love lures and flies, including soft plastics and metal lures.

They start breeding early in life, around 2 pounds with the best breeders being around 3 pounds. They produce approximately 250 thousand eggs if the fish is in good condition, they also need a rise in water at the right time, around late October early November when the water is around 22 degrees, at this time of
